What do you know about…. Inspirational Grounds?

Coffee House and Sweet Dreams Bakery…

Business and Ministry

We have to give God the praise and glory for the inspiration and startup of this business.  We are a family owned and operated business made up of husband and wife team Brent and Trena Norris with our three sons, Matt, Kyle and Brendan.  Mainly started from Trena’s dream and background experience in working at a coffee house, deli and catering business for several years; along with Brent’s education and background experience in business, combined with a couple’s desire to seek God’s ministry outreach for both our lives and the community.  Brent is a local Dunn native who graduated from Triton High School as well as Campbell University School of Business.  Brent has had other retail experience including grocery stores, restaurants and convenience stores not to mention tax preparation experience in addition to other talents.  Trena, although not originally from Dunn now calls this “All American City” home.  Trena also has experience owning and operating her own day care center in addition to her other many talents.  We both share the desire to have a positive impact on the local community and everyone we meet in sharing the same hope that we have in Jesus Christ.

Our business has undergone many changes over the last few years including offering full-service restaurant and catering services, however after much prayer, we decided to go back to our beginnings and put more focus on our specialty drinks and baked goods.  Although we do not currently have a drive-thru window, we do offer call in service and will be working on a “curb-side” pickup option.

We currently offer gourmet drink options and homemade baked goods which we provide in a nice Christian environment with the feel of being at home.  Our space includes areas open for bible studies, church groups and other events.  We have a wide variety of drinks including espresso coffee drinks, steamers, frappuccinos, smoothies, Italian sodas, milkshakes and flavored teas - with many flavors to choose from for all of our drink options.  We try to accommodate all requests when possible.

We also have a small “gift shop” started which currently includes jewelry, handmade custom candles and artwork for sale.  You can find out more about these items in our store and on our website under the tab “Art and Gift Shop”.

Our bakery side called Sweet Dreams Bakery focuses on Custom Cakes designed by Trena's Treats. Fresh from scratch hand-crafted from our "home" to yours made with love! You come up with an idea you want and let us see if we can ‘bake’ it happen for you!  The colors for our bakery include pink (for breast cancer awareness) and purple (for domestic violence awareness).  We also include a butterfly in our signage to symbolize “new beginnings”.  “We can ‘bake’ your dreams come true”.

Our name (Inspirational Grounds) and slogan (You’re In For A “Brewed Awakening”) are a play on words.  “Grounds” refers to coffee grounds as well as a common “grounds” as place for people to gather and meet.  “Brewed Awakening” is a play on “rude awakening” to associate brewed for coffee and awakening for the hope that people have a chance to be awakened to the loving grace of Jesus Christ.  We want to be a place of “inspiration” and uplifting of people and a common “grounds” for everyone to come no matter their differences.  We want to be a place of inspiration and HOPE!

We desire to have God work through us, this business and the associated ministry outreaches to do His will to benefit the local community and beyond.  It is our intention to be a common ground for all denominations as well as the unsaved world alike to be able to draw together and associate in a non-judgmental setting to show the love of Jesus Christ and cultivate a growing personal relationship with God.  People often will not come into a church for whatever reason, but most all people will come to a coffee house or restaurant of some sort for good drinks, food and dessert.  We just want to be a place to make everyone feel welcome and hopefully have a positive impact on the lives of those God places in our path.  We are not out to “cram” any religion down anyone’s throat, but neither do we want to ‘minimize’ the God we serve.  We want God to work through us to and use us to show His love to everyone we encounter and it is our desire for this to be able to be done in a non-threatening way. We know we are not perfect and we all make mistakes, but we strive to be better and help others find hope in Jesus Christ.

We continue to work on building a network of contacts including churches and other ministries to help get people plugged in and build each other up and stop tearing each other down.  We desire to promote the “Church” as a unified body of Christ and not a particular denomination.  We represent INTER-denominational ministry and not necessarily non–denominational.  Denominations represented here include (but not limited to and in no particular order) various non-denominations, Assemblies of God, Baptist, Catholic, Church of God, Methodist, Pentecostal, PFWB, Pentecostal Holiness, Presbyterian, Freedom Biker Church, and others.  We have a vision to see local ministry leaders (especially youth leaders) to be able to come together and possibly have small conferences and speaking engagements to help encourage each other in ministry.  We mainly want to be able to assist those we come in contact with to have and develop a personal relationship with God and potentially connect with a local church or other ministry when possible.

We have Bible and ministry tracts and flyers available to share with anyone coming into the store as well as books available for people to come in and enjoy reading and studying.  We also accept donations of materials from anyone who wants to donate them to support this effort to spread the Gospel message.

We have FREE Bibles available which have been provided by Operation Teaching Tools through Missionary C. Rose Boyd.  For those who do not know, Operation Teaching Tools is a faith-supported ministry that supplies overseas missionaries and established National churches with Christian education resource materials, media equipment and school supplies.  You can find out more about Operation Teaching Tools and Ms. Boyd’s ministry at www.operationteachingtools.org

We have necklace crosses available which are provided by Mr. Perry Lewis and Point Man Battleground Ministries in support of both our “Sweet Dreams Ministry” reaching out to domestic violence victims as well as his own ministry of ministering to the military with various packs given out through military chaplains and others throughout the community and around the world.  These crosses have also been used by many as a witnessing tool.  You can find out more about Point Man Battleground Ministries and these crosses at - http://dunncrosses.com

We started Sweet Dreams Ministry to reach out to domestic violence victims and their families.  The domestic violence awareness “motto” often used is “break the silence - stop the violence”.  Often the silence on the subject is what makes it more difficult to deal with. We have worked with SAFE of Harnett County and are currently working with Beacon Rescue Mission here in Dunn to help in any way we can.  We encourage you to find out more about Beacon and their wonderful ministry and helping hand in this community at
www.beaconmission.com.  We also have a vision to build a shelter here in Dunn to focus on domestic violence victims and families and in some cases help them relocate as well as help provide the support they need.  More about this ministry as well as others can be found on our ministries website.

1 Corinthians 9:19-23
For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.  To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law.  To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law.  To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.  I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.

One major problem with people being pushed away from God and Christianity is shown in the following quote:  “The single greatest cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, then walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.” – Brennan Manning in his book The Ragamuffin Gospel

To sum things up, we strive to allow God to work through us as a Community Outreach.  Our vision is to be a place for all to gather and meet together no matter their differences - Just a common grounds to share in a non-threatening way, our faith and hope in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

We also want to share with you a couple of our favorite Bible verses:

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” - Joshua 24:15 (NIV)

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. - Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
